Come and explore a beautiful destination that is home to a priceless historic site: Castell de Castells.

Located in the province of Alicante, Castell de Castells is a small municipality swept up in the midst of mother nature. The area is renowned for being home to some of the most important rock art sites in the Region of Valencia, namely Pla de Petracos. Fancy coming for to explore?

What to see in Castell de Castells

First take your time to wander peacefully through the streets of Castell de Castells, enjoying the leisurely pace of life and soaking up the history. We’d recommend stopping off at the parish church along the way and taking a look around Museo Etnológico, the ethnological museum, where you will be transported back in time to discover what daily life was like in the past.

The village’s most important sight is Santuario del Pla de Petracos. Here you can visit the rock art, which dates back a mind-boggling 7,000 years. It has been listed a Site of Cultural Interest and a World Heritage Site

The site comprises shelters and a cave where you can see depictions of Levantine Art dating to the early Neolithic period. You will see both geometrical shapes and portrayals of humans and animals. When you think back at how old they are, you simply won’t be able to believe it.

Situated in and around Castell de Castells are mountains - namely Serrella, Aixortà, Forat Negre and Alfar - that are calling out to be explored on foot. You could take the trail to Castellet or Els Arcs, which are suitable for all types of walkers, as well as the Morro Blau trail, which is a bit more complicated. And then there’s the trail to Museo de Arte Macroesquemático and Santuario del Pla de Petracos, which is a must-visit during your time in the area. This is an intermediate level trail.

To refuel after all this exertion, tuck into mintxos con farinetes i borra, salmorra and sausages. All of these products are made with the highest quality local olive oil. So what are you waiting for? Make Castell de Castells the destination for your next getaway.
