Orihuela is all about history, sights and traditions. As well as delicious gastronomy and festivals bursting with symbolism. Fancy coming for a visit to fall in love with this part of the province of Alicante?

Located in La Vega Baja in the province of Alicante, Orihuela is a destination bursting at the seams with history, tradition and impressive sights. Starting in the Historic and Artistic Centre, get ready for exploration that will lead you to the Mediterranean. Come with us to take a look around this wonderful place.

What to see in Orihuela

As Orihuela is packed with sights, we’re going to name just some of the most important, but we’d recommend taking a wander around to be amazed by everything there is to see. A good place to start is at Santo Domingo Diocesan College which has Renaissance, Baroque and Mannerist elements, before continuing to the Episcopal Palace.

Next, make your way to El Salvador and Santa María Cathedral Church, decorated with Gothic and Renaissance elements, and Orihuela Castle-Alcazaba, a fortress sitting atop mount San Miguel. With its chapels, palaces, convents, watchtowers like Cabo Roig Tower that sits close to the sea, and sections of the old Wall, Orihuela has got plenty of surprises up its sleeves.

Similarly, we’d recommend visiting Santas Justa y Rufina Parish Church and Santiago el Mayor Paris Church, and Orihuela County Archaeological Museum where you can see La Diablesa, a sculpture emanating symbolism that is carried on processions during Orihuela Holy Week.

During the Easter festivities, El Canto de la Pasión is performed. This 16th century piece creates a special and unforgettable atmosphere. And then there’s Miguel Hernández House Museum. You could also take a literary route, which is a great way to explore the destination.

Orihuela is also known for its nature and landscapes, like El Palmeral de San Antón, a beautiful palm grove that is a wonderful place to take a walk. Alternatively, you could make your way to the coast to visit beaches like Punta Prima and La Caleta. The Mediterranean at Orihuela is pure joy.
