Just a stone’s throw from Alicante city, Mutxamel has got plenty of sights to see, areas of natural beauty to explore and delicious cuisine to enjoy.

Located in the province of Alicante, Muxtamel is full of pretty places such as Jardines de Peñacerrada where you can gaze at a beautiful Neoclassical property and listen to the relaxing sounds of nature emanating from the surrounding greenery. A great destination to make unforgettable memories.

What to do in Mutxamel

We’d recommend starting your exploration of Muxtamel in Plaça Nova where you can gaze at the pretty houses whose roofs overhang the buildings, before moving on to Plaza de San Roque and Paseo de la Constitución. Here you can see Casa Ferraz complete with defence tower and gardens as well as El Salvador church, which also has a defence tower and a chapel dedicated to Mare de Déu de Loreto.

Next, take a stroll through El Ravalet district whose streets still reflect the original Moorish layout. Also on your to-visit list is the magnificent San Francisco convent which has a number of chapels: El Calvario chapel, which has beautiful views; San Antonio chapel where every January there is a traditional blessing of the animals; and Montserrat chapel which dates back to the 16th century and whose location reflects the importance of water in the town.

As you might expect, Mutxamel’s cuisine is delicious. During your time here, make sure you try a dish of broad beans (habas) and bread baked in a wood oven. You won’t find any shortage of bars or restaurants serving up local products and traditional dishes. If you can, coincide your visit with one of the town’s festivals, namely La Vera Cruz, Milagro de la Lágrima, Fiesta del Ravalet and Fiesta del Salvado and - of course - Moors and Christians, which has been listed an Event of Tourist Interest.

Lovers of the great outdoors will be pleased to hear that Mutxamel is located close to areas of natural beauty complete with historic sites, such as the Mutxamel and Sant Joan waterwheels near the river Seco. There are also some lovely recreational areas such as La Sabateta and El Calvario as well as areas populated by endemic plant life, such as El Bec de l’Àguila. As you can see, there are plenty of things to see and do in Mutxamel so start planning your getaway today.
