Río de Bolbaite: a refreshing natural paradise

At the foot of the Sellent River, we find Bolbaite, a wonderful town in La Canal de Navarrés where you can immerse yourself in the best of Mother Nature.
The charming town of Bolbaite, in La Canal de Navarrés, is a gem in the Region of Valencia. It sits on the banks of the Sellent River, a tributary of the Júcar River, the latter of which flows through the entire province.
You can’t visit Bolbaite without seeing the mouth of the Sellent River. Here, you can see firsthand how the river naturally turns into a lake, which has since become a bathing and swimming area for visitors. Some say that this is one of the most appreciated natural pools in the Region of Valencia.
Head to Paraje del Río Sellent and you’ll find a recreational and picnic area, which is often filled with family, friends and lovers enjoying the beautiful weather. You can access this lake by walking to it from the Old Town of Bolbaite, where you’ll find plenty of parking. You can also access it from CV-580. Just look for the graffiti indicating an access point. Once you see it, park in the area surrounding the lake and walk along the path for 100 metres until you reach the recreational part of the river.
What to see in Bolbaite
The river aside, Bolbaite is home to authentic historic and cultural gems like its Muslim-inspired castle, panoramic viewpoints of the town and countryside, Plaza de la Iglesia (where Town Hall is located!), the parish temple to San Francisco de Paula, the old laundry and an iconic fountain with four jets—the latter is the site of many celebrations and festivities. The destination is also filled with historic, narrow streets that guide you right through the heart of it all.
Cross Puente Nuevo, a bridge that connects the two parts of town separated by the river, and you’ll find stunning natural landscapes and gorges like "Gorgo Cadena." The latter site has a cave submerged in water (making it great for speleology!) and has become a popular bathing and swimming area for visitors.
Of course, you can’t go anywhere in the Region of Valencia without tasting its delicious food and drink. Traditional dishes of Bolbaite include: “Olla con pelotas,” “Arroz con hierbas,” “cazuela con pencas” and the famous “gachamiga.” Unique cakes—like those made with sausages, bacon, pork ribs, peppers, tomatoes, eggs and tuna—are also a delicacy here.
We know any trip to Bolbaite is a true, sensory experience. Spend a few days exploring Río de Bolbaite and let its charms surprise you.
