Come and visit a small place of worship sitting amid the agricultural land in Pego. You’re going to love the chapel's rustic appearance.

Ermita de San Antonio, San Antonio Chapel in Pego, is a pretty place of worship sitting on the outskirts of the town. It’s just 2km from the centre, making it a great endpoint for a nice and easy walk.

San Antonio Chapel dates back to the 16th century and is built atop an old Moorish settlement named Benisuleima which, in turn, sits on an old Roman site. This part of Pego breathes history.

You’re going to love the chapel’s rustic appearance and the porch or atrium located out front. Step inside the simple interior and you’ll see a statue of San Antonio Abad accompanied by a pig, known locally as a "porquet".

Every year in January, San Antonio Chapel hosts a pilgrimage in honour of the saint as well as the traditional blessing of the animals. There is also a "porrat", a bustling fair where you can savour traditional sweet treats that have blessed and purchase some artisan-made pieces. It’s a great day out in the winter months. So how do you fancy it? Come and visit San Antonio Chapel in Pego in La Marina Alta in the province of Alicante and set off on an exploration of monuments big and small on unforgettable getaways.
