Don’t miss San Juan Bautista Parish Church and the iconic Bell Tower during your time in Alcalà de Xivert.

If you’re visiting Alcalà de Xivert, make sure you take the time to see Iglesia Parroquial de San Juan Bautista, San Juan Bautista Parish Church. Built between 1736 and 1766 by architects José Herrero and Joan Barceló, the place of worship is an example of Valencian Classical Baroque. The Latin cross plan consists of three naves divided into five sections by a crossing, over which sits a cupola with its respective pendentives and drum and eight large windows.

You can also visit the Bell Tower, which is the most iconic monument in the town. It was initially designed by Joan Barcel and completed by Blas Teruel. The octagonal tower has four separate bodies separated by perimeter cordons and an ornamental top. Perched on the top is a lead-clad wooden statue of San Juan Bautista while at the entrance door, framed by Doric pillars, there is a niche containing a statue of Santa Bárbara.

Make sure you take time to look around the inside of the church: its beauty will astound you. And while you’re in the area, we highly recommend visiting the Templar Castle in the midst of Sierra de Irta, which affords impressive views.
