What to see in Ayódar
Start off in the centre of Ayódar where we’d recommend wandering through the steep streets – which speak of its Muslim past – and gazing at the white-washed houses. Along the way you’ll find some interesting sites such as San Vicente Ferrer Parish Church, an Academist place of worship dating back to the mid-19th century. Your attention will also be drawn to El Antiguo Convento de Dominicos Tower, a 17th century construction which used to be part of the 16th century convent, which is no longer standing.
Venture outside the centre of Ayódar and you’ll find plenty of things to visit. If you’re in the mood for an easy walk, take the circular Reca route, known as Volta de la Reca, and then set off in search of the ruins of the old Castle. This Muslim fortress, of which only the Keep still remains, is a great excursion to get an idea of the lie of the land. You’ll soon notice that Ayódar is a hilly place where the vegetation is leafy, making it a little slice of paradise for lovers of walking.
One of Ayódar’s most impressive areas is close to the centre yet in the embrace of nature: the beautiful natural pools where you can do some wild swimming. The River Chico has shaped a number of pools, waterfalls and channels that are well worth a visit. You really won’t want to miss them, particularly in the summer. The Azud area, for instance, is spectacular.
All of these natural treasures are under an hour from the centre of Ayódar, making them ideal for an excursion with the kids. There are also via ferratas. Ayódar is a great place to enjoy some active and sports tourism. Fancy coming to spend some time here?
