Les Useres, Useras, is a charming destination in the province of Castellón, known for its deep-rooted traditions and festivities that celebrate the local history and culture. There’s plenty to celebrate here!
Let’s start with San Antonio Festival, which takes place every year on the weekend closest to 17 January. In the lead up to the festival, children run through the streets dragging "panderos" - cans tied to long ropes - that fill the town with clanging noises. The traditional event "matxà" features bonfires lit in the streets, and you’ll get the chance to sample a local delicacy when they give out "rotllos", sweet baked goods. The following day, the celebrations continue with mass and a procession in honour of the saint.
Another key cultural event to experience is 'La Peregrinación de Useras a San Juan de Peñagolosa', a religious pilgrimage declared an Event of Cultural Interest in 2016, which also received the Cultural Merit distinction from the Generalitat Valenciana.
And you can’t miss the Patron Saint Festival at the beginning of August, in honour of Salvador and Cristo de la Agonía. This celebration sees bulls released on the streets, live music, cultural activities, religious ceremonies and sports events.
The Wine Fair is also held every year in Les Useres, comprising wine tastings in the local bodegas and plenty of entertainment and activities, stirring up a festival atmosphere.
Visit Les Useres and get stuck into the local customs and vibrant culture.
