What to see in Sueras
We’d recommend starting your time in Sueras in the centre, walking the streets lined with traditional white-washed façades that are still arranged in the Islamic layout. Make your first stop 18th century La Asunción de Nuestra Señora Parish Church, which has an interesting ceramic mural on the façade.
As you walk the streets, keep a look out for the lovely tiled panels that date to the late 19th century. Afterwards, go and see El Calvario Chapel, a small place of worship that makes a lovely endpoint to a leisurely stroll.
There’s plenty to do outside the centre of Sueras. You could, for instance, walk the Castro Walk, which leads you from fountain to fountain, all the way to an old fortress. Alternatively, you could freshen up at Castro Fountain, Bocamina Fountain and Ullals Fountain as you walk alongside a pretty ravine.
This path, defined by the beautiful woodland populating Sierra de Espadán, leads you to Mauz Castle, which is about 3km from the centre of Sueras. Part of the wall and a tower are still standing, cutting an unmistakeable silhouette in the midst of nature. The fortress was built all the way back in the 12th century.
The castle served to protect the small populations that now comprise present-day Sueras, some of which you can still visit today. The ruins at Castro Settlement, a Protected Archaeological Site, and the Abandoned Population of Suera Alta are charming spots that will get you reaching for your camera. You will also find countless trails, all of which are stunning, snaking through the natural park. Fancy coming to visit a destination that has plenty for you to get up to?
