Day 1: A discovery of Gandia’s historic heritage
Our list of things to do in Gandia starts with a fantastic walking tour to see some culture and discover the history and heritage of this great town. You will, of course, come across impressive examples of the legacy of the Borjas. Keep your camera handy if you like photography.
First, make your way to the Ducal Palace of Gandia, where the Borjas, a powerful dynasty, once resided. This impressive building combines Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements and is well worth taking a look around. Afterwards, head to Plaza Mayor to soak up the atmosphere and take a look around Santa María Collegiate Church, a beautiful Gothic church.
Next, wander the streets until you reach Santa Clara Convent, which has been operating since the 16th century, and then go to El Serpis Viewing Point to admire the Town Walls. This will give you an idea of the grandeur of the town.
After a busy morning spent exploring, you’re sure to be in need of some food. Fideuá, a seafood dish the town specialises in, is a great way to refuel.
And to conclude your first day, we’ve got another great thing to do in Gandia: visit Gandia Archaeological Museum, known as MAGa for short. Within its walls, you will travel back thousands of years in time to the Palaeolithic and Neolithic periods.
Day 2: What to do in and around Gandia beach
The second day of this itinerary will take you to the coastline where you can see some treasures hidden among Gandia’s natural landscapes. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes, pack some water in your backpack and get ready to connect with the sea, the past and biodiversity.
Start by taking a walk through Parpalló-Borrell Municipal Natural Landscape and check the opening times for El Parpalló Cave, which has rock art. You might just be lucky enough to be able to visit. Another great thing to do in Gandia is to visit Bairén Castle, which is some 3km from the centre and dates all the way back to the Iberian period. It looks great in pictures.
And if you started your day early, you might still have time to visit El Morabito in Marxuquera district. This site is shrouded in mystery as nobody knows when it was built.
When it comes to things to do at Gandia beach, the list goes on and on. Even outside the summer season, it’s a lively place with plenty of restaurant and leisure options on offer. You might even be in the mood for doing some water-based sports. Are you ready for your getaway? Pack your bags, save this itinerary and enjoy yourself: your two-day getaway will be full of unforgettable experiences.
