Come and explore a destination with beautiful scenery and interesting history where you can enjoy all sorts of outdoor pursuits.
Located in inland province of Valencia, Chera is a very special nature and rural tourism destination. The scenery here is unique as the land has created some spectacular natural monuments. Once you’ve finished your hiking trail, you will also want to take a look around the charming village. Let us help plan your getaway.
What to see in Chera
Historically, the districts in central Chera once belonged to different families. In terms of sights, make sure you visit Chera Castle and El Conde House. The castle dates back to the 12th century and sits atop a hill: the perfect destination for an excursion. El Conde House is from the 16th century.
You can also explore the many fountains here. Chera is one of the municipalities with the highest number of springs in the Region of Valencia.
And did you know that the village has plenty of caves? Chera sits on a graben – that is 75 million years old – which has created the most incredible geological formations. There is a Geological Park in the area, which is calling out to be explored.
The Geological Park Museum displays fossils and there are itineraries with information panels indicating the formations in the great outdoors. Lovers of caving will be pleased to know that there are plenty of spots to enjoy their favourite sport.
With its gorges, ravines, springs and waterfalls, Chera-Sot de Chera Natural Park is another of the destination’s attractions. We recommend pulling on some comfortable shoes and choosing the trail best suited to your group. Once you’ve finished your walk, make sure you try olla cherana, a stew, as well as the wonderful olive oil, honey and traditional desserts. And if you happen to be visiting Chera in August, make sure you check out the local festivities.
