Maderada de Cofrentes, Cofrentes’ timber rafting tradition, is a must-see celebration of tradition at its most authentic.

Mark your calendar for the first Saturday of May and head to Cofrentes to see the river Cabriel become the stage for an incredible re-enactment: La Maderada de Cofrente - the historic practice of floating timber downstream. Dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries, this was once a vital trade in the region, earning Cofrentes’ loggers a reputation for their skill and expertise.

The festivities begin with a pilgrimage at the river Cabriel’s recreational area, where participants receive a blessing before launching the logs into the water. From there, skilled guides steer them along the current, recreating the journey that once supplied wood to communities downstream.

Recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, this event, along with Maerà festival in Antella, keeps alive an age-old craft that has shaped local history. Don’t miss the chance to be part of Cofrentes’ great timber festival.
