Located in La Costera, El Genovés is a destination in the province of Valencia where you can walk hiking trails that snake through beautiful natural landscapes. Shall we take a look at everything you can get up to here?
What to do in El Genovés
First, take a walk through the centre of El Genovés to see La Mare de Déu dels Dolors parish church, which dates back to the 17th century. Then make your way to the early 20th century wash house and take a look around an interesting museum dedicated to pilota valenciana, a local racket sport.
El Genovés has strong ties with the sport as you can see in the newly renovated trinquet (a court used to play some versions of the game) and the many pilota valenciana-related sculptures that you will find here. Now is the perfect excuse to go and watch a game.
Just outside El Genovés you can visit El Cristo del Calvario chapel and San Pascual, a Baroque fountain dating to the year 1777. If you love walking, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to explore the Peña Blanca, Ampla, La Creu and La Andalusa trails. You can get your hands on information about these at the town hall.
L’Alboi (a district of El Genovés) is home to a recreational area and natural landscape that are ideal for a picnic for the family. Here you can make your way to see San Juan Bautista Niño chapel, an example of 16th century Gothic architecture that will get you reaching for your camera. You also won’t want to miss the poplar woods, the old fountain and an 11th century aqueduct known as “les Arcadetes d’Alboi”.
In and around El Genovés you will find veteran trees and native plant species of great natural and even historic value. They in themselves are reason enough to visit the destination. So how about it?
