Located in the sun-kissed county of La Marina Alta in the province of Alicante, Orba is a small place that is bursting with charm. It won’t take you long to fall in love with the pottery tradition and the streets whose layout has been the same for a long time. Fancy coming to discover all of Orba’s secrets?
What to do in Orba
To start, we’d recommend taking a walk through the winding streets to discover the traditional façades and old ceramic altars. You’ll pass by El Nacimiento del Señor Parish Church, which sits in a traditional plaza whose atmosphere you’re going to love soaking up.
Two of the most iconic sights you will want to see in Orba are the traditional wash houses, known as fonts. Font de Dalt and Font de Baix sit in lovely surroundings and are well worth a visit.
During your explorations of the centre, we’d also recommend setting aside some time to visit the Orba Council Pottery Museum Collection, a pottery museum that is packed with interesting pieces. The museum is housed in a wonderful manor house.
During your visit, you will discover the evolution of the craft that has been so important in the history of Orba from the 17th century to the present day. You will have the opportunity to delve into this world of pottery.
To round off your urban tour, make your way to Orbeta, a centre rubbing shoulders with Orba that is well worth taking time to explore. You’ll come across plenty of beautiful spots to photograph.
Once you’ve finished exploring the centre, venture a little further afield to visit Orba Castle. The final stretch of the walk is a bit steep but overall it’s not too hard.
The ruins of the medieval fortress are well worth visiting for the views you can enjoy from here. Thought to date back to between the 13th and 14th centuries, the castle dominates the horizon whose scenery is populated with irrigation canals and pools, old riuraus and springs. You’re going to love your rural getaway to this part of the province of Alicante.
