While getting lost in the villages of Castellón is always a great idea, embarking on your exploration in autumn and winter promises to be an unforgettable experience. Find out more about the province and discover the destination for your next adventure.
The wealth of the Region of Valencia lies in its culture, landscapes, history, gastronomy, traditions, diversity and more. Each and every province is hiding something spectacular that is just waiting for you to come and explore.
Known as “the roof of the Region of Valencia”, the province of Castellón never fails to wow its visitors. Not only does it have an extraordinary coastline, it is also the second most mountainous province in the whole of Spain, with the peak of Penyagolosa coming in at an impressive altitude of 1,800 metres. This diversity has made Castellón one of the most popular destinations in the country. Come and explore it for yourself.
Get inspired by the inland
The province of Castellón is dotted with warm and welcoming villages and captivating cities. The charm of the inland never ends, from its deep-seated traditions to its respect for nature, which absolutely deserves to be explored, valued and - most importantly - appreciated.
When you start your exploration in the north of inland Castellón, you’ll soon discover why it has a reputation as one of the most beautiful corners of Spain. Both the county of Els Ports and the treasure of Morella will immerse you in one of the most historic, cultural and Medieval parts of the province.
The county of Alt Maestrat is a treat for all the senses. Familiar aromas, tastes and sensations will transport you to different times and spaces. The villages of Catí, Ares del Maestrat, Culla and Benassal are wonderful places for a peaceful stroll through narrow streets, chats with friendly locals and living the magic of inland Castellón.
If you continue travelling south, you’ll soon discover places defined by the Mediterranean landscape, such as Vilafamés, on the shores of the powerful river Mijares, like Montanejos, and famed for their Roman heritage, such as the aqueduct of Bejís. Places that will take your breath away.
Dive into the coast
As if disconnecting, living incredible adventures and exploring the most spectacular natural landscapes weren’t enough, Castellón will also take you from the heights of Penyagolosa’s 1,800 metres to sea level at its coastline in a matter of minutes. This stunningly beautiful contrast provides the perfect backdrop to unforgettable experiences all year round.
Extending over 120 kilometres, the Costa de Azahar is defined by incredible beaches and stunning coves. Most of the coastline has been awarded the Blue Flag, a guarantee of the pristine quality of the water and great services. And then there’s the incredible weather all year round, making Castellón the perfect destination to live an autumn - and why not? - winter getaway.
If you want to explore the coastline, why not start at some of the most renowned beaches in the province? Els Terrers in Benicasim, Morro de Gos in Oropesa del Mar and El Norte beach in Peñíscola are spectacular parts of the coast, offering beautiful sea beds and dreamy landscapes that can be enjoyed even in winter.
And before you wave goodbye to the coast in Castellón, you simply have to visit its two extraordinary natural parks. Sierra de Irta and Prat de Cabanes–Torreblanca, located in the municipalities of the same name, boast an exceptionally beautiful unspoilt coastline.
