Iglesia Parroquial Virgen de Gracia, Virgen de Gracia Parish Church, sits in the heart of Viver in El Alto Palancia in the province of Castellón. It’s a beautiful place of worship, not least because of its three naves, all of which have impressive wooden altarpieces that have their own story and significance.
The architecture of the site is enriched with the Bell Tower, a structure that has been standing since 1608. Make sure you take the time to admire the Roman tombstones on the walls.
Virgen de Gracia Parish Church dates back to the 14th century when it was a mosque, before being turned into a Christian place of worship. In the interior, the side naves and crossing, dating back to the 19th century, provide a unique insight into the architecture dating from different periods. Look out for the grooved pillars of the Corinthian order, the barrel vault and the lunettes allowing light in.
The parish church is not only a place of worship and contemplation, but also a space of artistry and culture. The Museum Collection on display on the ground floor of the Communion Chapel contains an impressive variety of gold and silver pieces, paintings and sculptures.
Come and take a look around Virgen de Gracia Parish Church in Viver to discover its beauty, history and significance in the heart of this charming destination.
