Balcón del Mediterráneo: the Heart of Benidorm

Balcón del Mediterráneo observation deck in Benidorm needs no introduction, as you’ve probably come across plenty of photos of smiling people gazing out at the Mediterranean Sea and Benidorm Island from this spectacular meeting point.

Balcón del Mediterráneo is much more than just a coastal viewpoint, as it was built where a 14th-century fortress used to stand.  A great rock jutting out into the sea, the landmark divides Benidorm’s two main beaches, Poniente and Levante, sheltering the cosy marina and seafront promenade. No wonder this place was used as a lookout in case of pirates!

Today, you can still see remains of the castle walls, the moats and the walls of an old tower. Balcón del Mediterráneo was built on top of the original castle’s foundations, allowing you to be easily transported back to a bygone Benidorm full of pirates and thrilling battles.

This popular meeting point is a must-visit when staying in the lively city of Benidorm, and why not try to time it with the sunset for some especially stunning views of the bay and beyond. See if you can spot the islet in the distance and take some snaps of Benidorm’s urban skyline with its twinkling lights at night. During the day, admire the incredible beaches that stretch along this special part of Alicante’s coastline.
