Live the wonders of an extraordinary city. Find out everything you need to know about accessible and inclusive tourism in Alicante and get planning!
One of the values that best characterises the Region of Valencia is that it’s open to the world, which manifests in its desire to show off all its beautiful landscapes, sights and traditions to absolutely everyone. To make sure you don’t miss out on a thing, cities like Alicante have committed to promoting accessible and inclusive tourism by creating spaces and experiences that won’t put any limits on your getaway with loved ones.
According to the World Tourism Organization, “accessible destinations ensure that people with disabilities have access to the physical environment, the transportation system, information and communication channels, as well as to a wide range of public facilities”.
An example of this are the beaches in Alicante, many of which have put in place ramps to enable access to people with physical disabilities. Others have created fun educational spaces where people with learning difficulties can enjoy a range of different activities at the beach as well as, of course, take a dip in the sea with assistance from specially trained staff and floating beach chairs. And if you want to see what lies on the seabed of the Mediterranean, Alicante beaches have sports centres that will give you everything you need to do some diving or snorkelling.
The city also has an accessibility-friendly play park for children aged 3+ with disabilities. Located on Vía Parque, opposite Lo Morant park, the park is visited every day by children of all ages to have a whole lot of fun.
Another wonderful activity in Alicante is taking a stroll along the Explanada which really showcases the gastronomy, beauty and vibrancy of the city. And if you don’t want to stray far from the sea, you can head to the seafront promenade to enjoy the many restaurants, bars and pubs with the sound of the waves in the background.
