On this page, we’ve put together just a small summary of the main monuments and nature areas for you to put on your to-visit list. Which should absolutely include sitting down to enjoy a dish of arroz al horno, oven-baked rice.
What to see in La Costera in the province of Valencia
The first stop on our exploration of La Costera is L’Alcúdia de Crespins, which is situated in Riu Nou or Riu dels Sants Nature Area. The river here is the perfect place to go wild swimming. Another beautiful riverscape awaits in Barxeta, which sits on the banks of the river of the same name.
In Canals, you can visit the Tower and Walls of the Borja and discover the Patron Saint Festival in Honour of San Antonio Abad, which boasts the accolade of having one of the biggest bonfires in the Region of Valencia.
Next up on our tour of La Costera is Cerdà where you can visit the lovely public wash house, followed by Estubeny. The latter is home to an unforgettable nature area: La Cabrentà d’Estubeny, a Mediterranean rainforest defined by its caves and geological formations.
La Font de la Figuera has plenty of hiking trails taking you to caves, old mills and lime kilns as well as wineries. In El Genovés, we’d recommend getting your camera out and taking photos of the 11th century aqueducts, Gothic chapels, Baroque fountains and 20th-century wash houses. You also won’t want to miss La Pilota Museum.
La Granja de la Costera and Llocnou d’en Fenollet are two peaceful destinations nestled among the orange groves and irrigation channels where you can retreat in search of calm. In Llanera de Ranes, make sure you visit the museum dedicated to ethnology.
In La Llosa de Ranes, climb up to Santa Ana Chapel where you can breathe in incredible views over La Costera. The walk is more than worth the effort. Novelé is a trailhead for hiking routes through Sierra Vernisa to Peña San Diego while Roglà i Corberà is home to a building where tobacco used to be dried, now the town hall, which you simply have to see.
Torrella is a part of La Costera which has an interesting ethnological collection and Los Sanz de Vallés Palace is a masterpiece of the civil Valencian Gothic style. It’s time to climb up to Montesa Castle, an impressive Historic-Artistic Monument, and then wander leisurely back down to the centre to soak up the rest of the local heritage.
Vallada is a great destination for doing some caving or hiking on the route leading to the castle and in Mogente you can relax in El Bosquet nature area where you will enjoy looking at an old reservoir, century old Aleppo pines, a cave with rock art and the millennial Iberian site of La Bastida de les Alcusses.
