Benejúzar

Come and explore a peaceful part of La Vega Baja in the province of Alicante where you can soak up the rural atmosphere as you walk lovely trails.

Located in southern province of Alicante in La Vega Baja county, Benejúzar is a great rural and nature tourism destination where you can enjoy the warm sunny weather of the south of the Region of Valencia as well as soak up the peaceful and interesting surroundings. What to do in Benejúzar 

A good place to start your explorations of Benejúzar is Nuestra Señora del Rosario church, which dates to the first half of the 19th century. Then you can take a stroll around the plaza and the central streets. We would also recommend stopping by the more recent chapel which, interestingly, was built in just one week.

As you wander around the centre, you will notice that, unlike other municipalities, the streets are straight. This fact reveals an interesting fact about Benejúzar’s history: it was fully rebuilt following a destructive earthquake in the year 1829. The new village was built on the opposite side of the river Segura. 

Benejúzar’s natural scenery is lovely so remember to bring your walking shoes with you. Sierra de Benejúzar is a great place to go for a hike, walking up to peaks almost 200m high, namely Cabezo de los Mozos, Redondo and Alto de la Escotera. The trails are easy and suitable for all levels of walkers, including children.

What’s more, there are recreational areas complete with a hostel, camping area, nature room and places where you can have a barbecue and sit down to eat. Can you imagine anything better after a hike up into the hills? If you’re having something to eat in Benejúzar, we recommend trying some of the typical recipes that use incredible vegetables from the local agricultural land. And for something sweet to finish, make sure you try almojábenas. 

Last but by no means least, if you are visiting Benejúzar on the 12 October, you can see the pilgrimage in honour of Virgen del Pilar. This popular event offers fun for all the family.
