What to see in Cox

Enveloped in a landscape comprising fertile agricultural land, Cox has been inhabited by many civilisations over the years. During your time here, make sure you visit Museo Villa de Cox to discover the marks our ancestors left behind. Housed in an old flour mill, Museo Etnológico de Cox is another place where you can delve into the municipality's history and, not to mention, give you the opportunity to explore an old mill.

In the historic centre, make sure you pop your head into San Juan Bautista, a Baroque and Neoclassical church built in the 18th century. If you fancy venturing outside the village, you can see a Carmelite convent which dates back to the 17th century.

A must-visit during your time in Cox is the castle. The Muslim fortress has been fully renovated and affords incredible views that will get you reaching for your camera. There's a chapel nearby.

If you enjoy walking, you will want to take hikes through the huerta, the agricultural land, and up into Sierra de Callosa de Segura. By the time you circle back to the town, you will be hungry for a hearty dish of arroz con costra, arroz del burro and cocido con pelotas. If you have got a sweet tooth, make sure you try delicacies like almendrados, toñas and almojábanas.

Cox puts on a number of festivals throughout the year. The most important is Festividad de la Virgen de las Virtudes, which takes place in September, combining religious events and a great street party. In July, it's time for Virgen del Carmen, which includes the Moors and Christians parade. Another great event is Holy Week, which dates back to the 17th century, in which you will see Lenten cross is carried down from the castle. This is a destination you won’t want to miss.
