Snaking its way to El Albir Lighthouse, the walk affords beautiful views over the bay of Altea and the impressive Sierra de Bèrnia mountainscape. The cliffs and fossil dunes overlooking the Mediterranean are a beautiful sight.
Along the trail, you will discover spectacular Mediterranean plant life. There are even endemic species here, which is sure to be of interest to plant lovers. But that’s not all. The local geology combines with the vegetation to make El Albir Lighthouse Trail a walk unlike any other.
You will see beautiful sites such as La Ballena cave, Ameradors cove – where the locals used to work with esparto grass – El Metge cove, which is very close to where the doctor used to live in yesteryear, and La Mina cove. In the latter, there are the remains of an old red ochre mine. El Albir Lighthouse Trail also has some culture for you to soak up.
The lighthouse also has a visitor centre where you will discover exciting stories about sailors, soldiers and even pirates. You will also learn how the old lighthouse keepers used to live. Next to the visitor centre there is an old watchtower, Bombarda Tower.
If you have binoculars, you will enjoy spotting all sorts of birds, and if you’re lucky you may even see cetaceans jumping in the sea. So how about it? You ready to come and walk the El Albir Lighthouse Trail?
