Fanzara, a gallery amid the mountains
Located in inland province of Castellón, Fanzara flaunts colourful large-scale pieces of street art on many of its buildings. In this outdoor art gallery, the façades of the houses become the canvases on which the works are created, making this small village an absolute joy to explore.
Asociación MIAU, Museo Inacabado de Arte Urbano (the Unfinished Museum of Street Art), has tasked itself with promoting art, culture and critical thinking in rural settings. Hundreds of visitors flock to Fanzara every year to take a stroll through these most unusual of streets and take incredible photos of the stunning works of art.
Torreblanca, a town awash with colour
Also located in the province of Castellón, Torreblanca is a municipality that is alive with colour. Every year, the town runs an annual street art competition, Cítric, which sees a number of different artists creating pieces across the town.
Promoting neo-muralism, the contest brings together two Spanish artists who combine their ideas and styles to create an incredible piece. Come along to take a look at these artistic masterpieces.
The heart of València, a work of art
El Carmen district in València is another outdoor gallery and must-visit if you enjoy street art. Great artists such as Blu, Limón and Julieta have left their mark on the walls and façades of this most iconic part of the city.
As you stroll the streets of El Carmen, you will be immersed in a vibrant world that pops with colour. Requena boasts some street art that will leave you speechless. These large and life-like pieces adorn the façades of houses, at times making it hard to differentiate between – for instance – what is a tree and what is a painting of a tree. The realism, customs and traditions of the town have been perfectly captured in these spectacular murals.
If you would like to see these pieces, take a gentle stroll around the town and you’ll be surprised by how many you will see. La Villa, the oldest district in the town, is home to the most pieces as well as the towers of El Salvador church. Sagunto and “més que murs”
Embracing this new artistic trend, Sagunto has created a street art festival named Més que murs (More than walls). Cullera, a new street art gallery
Façades, walls and buildings also compete to be adorned with art in Cullera. The Museo de Arte Urban (Urban Art Gallery) project seeks to repurpose spaces in the seaside town, transforming them into vibrant pieces of art.
The initiative is promoted by young local artists who want to revive underused areas of Cullera and transform them into cultural spaces. A number of tours are available which will take you on a discovery of the art. Many of the pieces have strong messages that seek to raise awareness about specific issues. This is the case of De ti depende la Tierra (The Earth depends on you), which highlights the climate emergency. Take a walk through the streets and be inspired by the work.
Alcoy and Urban Skills
The Alcoy Urban Skills art exhibition will make you see the town that you know so well in a wholly different light. The many art pieces populating the streets achieve a surprising effect: to make passers-by think about the future, while evoking both past experiences and present feelings. To do so, it turns to various formats. Workshops, talks, concerts, murals and graffiti are the vehicle through which art becomes popular, bringing it closer to the public and awakening sensibilities from everyday landscapes.
