What to do in Cortes de Arenoso
During your time in Cortes de Arenoso you simply have to walk through the magical woodland that is populated, primarily, with pine and oak trees. While you’re in the woods, make sure you go and take a look at the oldest Quercus faginea - Portuguese oak - in Spain. The tree is known as El Rebollo and is a mind-boggling 700 years old.
There’s plenty to see in Cortes de Arenoso itself. We’d recommend wandering around the village, taking snaps of the beautiful historic buildings and sights that you will soon come across, such as Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles Parish Church, Rincón del Portal - which used to be the old gate into the village - Portal de la calle Herrerías and the old wash house. You’ll want to make sure you see the Moorish oven, which is now Museo del Pan (the bread museum), and the lovely ceramic panels.
There are also plenty of places of interest in and around Cortes de Arenoso. San Vicente de Piedrahita is a case in point, a hamlet where you can visit Santa Bárbara chapel and San Blas chapel which dates back to the 15th century. In the month of August, there is a pilgrimage to the latter. You also won’t want to miss the beautiful cross at Peirón de San Isidro, nor Los Morrones I, an archaeological site where an Iron Age settlement of great historic importance has been found.
It’s also worth visiting Cortes de Arenoso during its festivals, especially Fiestas de San Antonio Abad, Fiestas de San Vicente in San Vicente de Piedrahita, Fiestas de San Isidro and the patron saint festival, which is held in both Cortes de Arenoso and San Vicente de Piedrahita in August. So what are you waiting for? Start planning your trip to come and experience everything Cortes de Arenoso has to offer.
