Packraft Paddler Level I is a packrafting course designed to teach novice paddlers to competently enjoy entry-level flat water packrafting trips (lakes, dams, ocean), and participate in more advanced trips as part of a more experienced team.
*NO packrafting experience necessary.
Packrafting course duration: 1 day (8 hours)
Class ratio: 1 Instructor to every 7 students, or 2:14 with an additional instructor or trained assistant.
PACKRAFTING COURSE LEVEL I OVERVIEW
This one day course serves as an introduction to a broad range of topics including:
Basic packrafting equipment,
How to pack,
Packraft repair kit,
Basic paddle strokes,
Basic boating maneuvers,
Self-Rescue,
Weather,
Hazards,
Day trip planning,
Environmental concerns.
This type of boating demands a specific set of skills and strategies. Lakes, dams and ocean are an excellent resource to introduce you to this type of boating.
We focus on the importance of good decision-making, personal judgment and group responsibility.
Be in physical condition to participate in all individual skills and activities listed in the course outline.
Be able to actively swim while in a PFD.
Be accountable for keeping themselves properly outfitted, fed and hydrated during full days in the field.
