SAINT ANTONI THE GREAT FESTIVITIES IN PEÑÍSCOLA

The festivities in honor of Saint Anthony the Great, patron saint of animals, has great roots in Peñíscola. Throughout the weekend, a parade of carriages decorated for the occasion is organized, on Saturday night the bonfire is lit, where every visitor can participate in the great party and enjoy typical products of the City on the Sea. Afterwards, a popular ball is held in the marquee located in the Centro de Estudios parking lot. On Sunday at mid-morning, is celebrated the mass, as well as the blessing of animals and the cavalry parade through the old town towards Plaza Sta. María where the traditional distribution of the muscatel and the typical blessed pastry rolls (rotllets) takes place.

Saturday January 11^th

Carob Day

12:00 noon Carrying of the tree by the cavalry, accompanied by the Queen and the Court of Honor 2024 and a marching band.

Sunday January 12^th

Parade

11:00 a.m. Parade of the mayorales and members of the Commission for the sale of tickets for the traditional raffle accompanied by a marching band.

Friday January 17^th

Day of Sant Antoni and the Mayoral

10.15 a.m. Gathering at the Town Hall. Departure in procession of the mayorales, members of the Commission, Queen and Court of Honor 2024, authorities and companions, with the image of the Saint, to the hermitage of our patron saint, the Virgen de Ermitana.

10:30 a.m. Mass in honor of our patron saint, Sant Antoni.

Parade

11:00 Parade of the foremen and members of the Commission for the sale of tickets with the horse.

Saturday January 25^th

Bonfire day

6:30 p.m. Gathering at Sant Isidre Sq. of all the participants with the cavalry, to start the traditional parade through the streets of the city, accompanied by the marching band. Next, lighting of the bonfire by the Mayoral 2025 and the Queen of Fiestas 2024, in the parking lot of the Centro de Estudios.

Around 9:00 p.m. The City Council will offer all attendees the typical dining of grilled black pudding and sausages (€2 DONATION).

Next, a great popular festival in the marquee of the Centro de Estudios.

Sunday January 26th

Blessing of the animals

10:30 a.m. Gathering at Sant Isidre Sq. of all the participants with the cavalries to go to the parish church of Santa Maria.

11:00 a.m. Mass in Santa Maria’s church.

FR. At the end, the raffle draw and the blessing of the animals will proceed in Santa Maria Sq. and the typical rotllets will be given to the attending animals by the City Council.
