What to see in Pina de Montalgrao
A lovely way to explore Pina de Montalgrao is by visiting the fountains - some of which are fed by springs - that line the different hiking routes. Fuentevieja, El Ballestero Fountain and La Marrionda Fountain are just some examples that are worth a visit. The latter sits at 1,200m above sea level and affords the most spectacular views.
The centre of the village is filled with buildings and monuments that have a long past.
A case in point is the Moorish Oven as well as the Parish Church. Also worth putting on your to-visit list are the beautiful chapels, the council house and Prospinal Tower, a Site of Cultural Interest which dates back to the 3rd century BC, Iberian times.
Pina de Montalgrao is immersed in incredible countryside. The best way to explore it is by walking the hiking trails and routes which will reveal the history of the area along the way. A unique opportunity to discover, for example, La Cerdaña Cave, a sanctuary dating back to Iberian times that was used to worship nature. A fascinating legend is connected to this cave. The local geology has created even more caves that are well worth exploring, namely Corderina, Ahumada, Murciénaga, El Pueblo and El Alemán.
Once you’ve explored Pina del Montalgrao, you simply have to try its gastronomy. Local dishes here feature truffles and red pine mushrooms and there are also some delicious sweet treats, such as bollicos de pansa and pestiños.
