What to see in Tales

There’s plenty to do and see in Tales. To start with, you should go for a wander around the town’s traditional, winding streets. While exploring, you’ll come across San Juan Bautista Parish Church - built between the 18th and 19th century - and the old public wash house. The ceramic tile depicting the Holy Cave, found on the wall in the main square, is worth looking out for, and the old stone arch called El Portalet is an original feature of the town.

Visit the ancient remains of a fortress while you’re in Tales and admire the castle, Cabrera Tower and the ominous sounding Death Tower. This site has seen many changes over the centuries, with the oldest element dating back to the 12th century during the Islam period. Another part of the site was built during the Medieval period and the last construction was in the 19th century during the Carlist wars.

The Ethnological Museum in Tales is another great place to check out. The former mill is open to the public, with the building’s original features on display, as well as some fascinating artefacts. Head out to Tales’ surroundings and discover the many hiking opportunities along scenic trails.

Choose one of the four classic walks, known as Entre dos rius, Font de Montí, Penya Negra, and the uphill hike Pujada al Montí. Next to the Tales Azud, you’ll find a picnic area and fountain.
