Wander around Nuestra Señora de Gracia chapel to soak up its five hundred years of history.

Dating all the way back to the year 1577, Nuestra Señora de Gracia chapel in Vila-real is enveloped in one of the prettiest parts of La Plana Baixa, El Termet, a botanic garden sitting on the banks of the river Mijares.

As you pass through the rounded arch into the Baroque chapel, you will find yourself in a rectangular nave topped with a rib vault. Since 1633, the high altar has been devoted to the image of the patron saint of the town. In the connecting chapel, known as La Coveta, you can see a faithful reproduction of the original image of the Virgen, which dates to the 14th century.

El Termet, the garden enveloping the chapel, is one of the most popular in the town and perhaps even in the whole province. As you make your way to the chapel, you will find yourself in the midst of trees that are typically found alongside rivers, such as elms, black poplars and willows, as well as Mediterranean varieties that have become accustomed to a lack of water: Aleppo pine, holm oak, kermes oak and lentisk. The garden’s great diversity of plants and wildlife makes it an ideal spot to learn about the environment.

Just outside Nuestra Señora de Gracia chapel is a circular fountain featuring a statue of El Pastoret. Inside the chapel itself you will also see other works of art, such as 18th century ceramics made in Manises and Baroque paintings (in La Coveta). During your time in Vila-real, make sure you come and take a stroll through the gardens and a look around this pretty chapel.
