Carraixet Ravine: Discover the Valencian Orchard Landscape

The Carraixet ravine is a watercourse that runs through many towns in the region of l'Horta Nord until it flows into Alboraya. If you are wondering where the Carraixet ravine starts, the answer is the Calderona Mountain Range. From the municipality of Gátova, the river runs 42 kilometres to its end, passing through municipalities such as Olocau, Náquera, Bétera and Moncada, among many others. It is not always full of water. In fact, in some stretches it is dry and the flow also depends on the rainfall.

If you like nature tourism and want to enjoy a good route, the Carraixet ravine is for you. In Alboraya you can take a route along the last stretch of the ravine. It starts at the bridge that crosses the ravine and continues along the right bank to the mouth.

On the route you will come across the ecosystem of the Carraixet ravine, full of life! There are water birds that spend the whole year here, using the Carraixet as a breeding and resting area when they migrate. The flora is diverse with reeds, bulrushes, duckweed and water plants that serve as food for the animals.

Halfway along the route you will enjoy an emblematic construction of our land, an authentic barraca. The Barraca del Coix de Navarro is an example of how farmers used to live in the old days, when they tilled the land and dedicated themselves to it body and soul. Cal Calderer and the Barraca del Roto are part of the trail: three buildings that tell us about our history and are worth preserving.

At the end of the route you can see how people fish in the Carraixet ravine. The mouth of the river divides the beaches of Alboraya: Port Saplaya on one side and Patacona on the other.
