Ruta del Hilo Rojo, the Red Thread Route in Ayora, is a wonderful way to get to know the history and heritage of this part of the province of Valencia. On this cultural tour, you will follow a red thread – inspired by an age-old legend – that snakes around the streets of the destination. This medieval tale is the perfect excuse to set off on an exploration of Ayora.
The Red Thread Route has a number of QR codes which you can scan with your smartphone to find out all the information you could possibly want to know about each stop on this tour of heritage sites. Along the way, you will discover stories, historic events and surprises.
The Red Thread Route will give you an insight into what life was like in Ayora in the past as well as provide an understanding of the local gastronomy and customs. The tour starts at San Francisco Convent and continues at the Castle, Santa María la Mayor Church, La Morería district, streets and plazas steeped in history and other sites of interest. There is a total of 31 stops.
Take advantage of your visit to Ayora to walk the Red Thread Route and visit Tortosilla Rock Shelter, which is protected by UNESCO as part of the Rock Art of the Mediterranean Basin. Or you could visit in October to coincide your trip with a great event: El Primer Corte de la Miel.
