What to do in El Valle de Cofrentes-Ayora

We’re going to start our exploration of El Valle de Cofrentes-Ayora in Ayora, which in October hosts Primer Corte de la Miel, a fair with lots of gastronomic and traditional activities as well as guided tours, namely the Red Thread tour and the Chapels tour. The municipality is also home to areas of natural beauty such as La Hunde, La Sierra, Palomera and Montemayor. You will see an abundance of wildlife here including deer and birds of prey.

In Cofrentes, make sure you take a boat ride along the river Júcar, immersing yourself between sheer rockfaces or get your adrenaline pumping with all sorts of active and sports tourism activities. You, of course, have to visit Cofrentes Castle and gaze at the clock on the Keep. The Stations of the Cross and Virgen de la Soledad Chapel and El Patriarca San José Parish Church will steal your heart so make sure you put them on your to-visit list.

Next up on our journey around El Valle de Cofrentes-Ayora is Cortes de Pallás where you can do some kayaking in a beautiful reservoir. If you prefer to keep your feet on dry land, you could always climb up to the peak to breathe in the views from Chirel Castle. And then there is Hermosa Cave, an impressive grotto that will make you feel like you’re embarking on a real adventure.

Jalance and its Castle are a great destination to make use of your walking shoes, backpack and water bottle. And if you love ancient art, you’ll be pleased to know that this municipality has a number of sites for you to enjoy, such as Las Monteses. You are also not far from El Júcar Canyon, proof that El Valle de Cofrentes-Ayora is bursting with natural landscapes that will blow you away.

Jarafuel has a lovely historic centre where you can take some great photos and then there is the Castle. The most recognisable silhouette in the municipality, the fortress is very old, dating back to the late 10th century. Keep walking until you reach Santa Catalina Parish Church, built atop an old mosque, and if you’re craving some nature, make your way to Las Coníferas Park.

In Teresa de Cofrentes, you can visit La Asunción de Nuestra Señora Parish Church as well as Santa Cruz and Apolinar Chapels. You also have the opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable picnic at El Nacimiento Recreational Area, which is located next to a fresh water source. Walk up to Castillico de Plaza and visit the museum collection about the production of olive oil.

The last destination on our exploration of El Valle de Cofrentes-Ayora is Zarra, which is defined by its steep, narrow streets populated with historic wash houses, Santa Ana Parish Church, the bell tower and street art that turns the walls and façades into artistic masterpieces. You are sure to take some incredible photos. Just outside the municipality, there are all sorts of archaeological sites and magical woodland close to La Hoz de Zarra.

Come and fall in love with the boundless wonders that await in El Valle de Cofrentes-Ayora.
