Thing to do in Guardamar del Segura: day 1
Let’s kick off the trip with a visit to the town’s impressive medieval castle. The site is home to ancient remains that date back to the Iron Age.
Take a trip back in time and visit two fascinating archaeological sites. The ancient Islamic site of Rábita Califal de las Dunas, located just a twenty-minute walk from the town, still preserves some of its public roads and buildings. The Phoenician settlement, La Fonteta, which sits opposite, was once a port town.
You're bound to work up an appetite while exploring the town’s fascinating ancient history. Guardamar del Segura is a great place to sample the local cuisine. Sit down at a restaurant and order a dish featuring ñora – a dried pepper commonly used in local cooking – paired with fresh langoustines.
Spend the afternoon exploring Guardamar del Segura’s various beaches, such as Babilonia, Roqueta, Centre, El Campo, El Moncayo, Tusales and Vivers. The crystal-clear waters are sure to tempt you in for a dip.
To round off the day, head back to the castle to watch the sunset and admire the views as dusk descends.
