Day 1: From Sagunto castle to the historic centre
There’s so much to see in Sagunto and its surroundings in just one day. The best way to kick off your exploration is by starting at the town's highest point, at the magnificent Castle. The landmark has been lovingly preserved and offers a fascinating glimpse into the many different civilisations that once lived within the castle walls. The Roman Theatre is our next stop. This amphitheatre continues to host cultural performances today, so you might be lucky and catch a show.
Be sure to find time to visit Sagunto’s Archeological Museum, then continue on to the historic Jewish quarter, a fairytale-like area great for snapping photos. To end the day, we suggest a stroll around the historic centre, stumbling upon quaint chapels and other historic sites along the way. Once the hunger sets in, you won’t have a problem finding a place to sample the local culinary delights.
Day 2: Sagunto and its coastal area
The second day of your trip is sure to be as jam-packed as the first, as there’s still so much to see in Sagunto. We recommend starting the day by checking out the incredible archaeological site, Via del Pòrtic - Domus dels Peixos. Here, you’ll encounter the remains of an arcaded Roman road that even features shops and a typical villa.
Your next stop on this sightseeing tour around Sagunto takes you to the seafront, with a visit to the coastal part of town. You can’t miss the large and imposing Blast Furnace No. 2, an industrial complex turned cultural centre that certainly leaves a lasting impression.
Next, let’s make our way to El Grau Vell Tower. This 15th-century landmark is a significant emblem of Sagunto’s seafaring past and maritime neighbourhood, El Grau Vell. Enjoy the seaside experience by taking a dip in the water and feel the sand between your toes. Beaches Almardá, Corinto and Puerto de Sagunto are all worth a visit - which will you choose to spend the afternoon on? Save this sightseeing route for your trip to Sagunto and happy exploring.
