It’s World Paella Day and once again the Region of Valencia’s best-known rice dish is in the spotlight. Taking place in València city, the event has an international reach with chefs travelling from all four corners of the world to take part. Here’s everything you need to know to enjoy what is always an unmissable culinary event.
Where is World Paella Day held?
This year, the area around the Pergola at La Marina de València will be turned into an outdoor kitchen. Here the competitors will focus their attention on the fire, the ingredients and cooking times with a boost of inspiration coming from the pretty seaside scenery.
When is World Paella Day?
World Paella Day 2024 is taking place on the 20 September. In the training stage (held in the lead up to the big day), international competitors will have had the opportunity to practise their recipe alongside chefs with expertise in paella cookery as well as explore the scenery of the birthplace of the dish, visiting areas like the rice fields of L’Albufera Natural Park.
On World Paella Day itself, the 20 September, València will shower chefs from different food cultures with hospitality. At 11am, the judges will taste the paellas cooked by the chefs at the top of the ranking and decide on the finalists. From 11.30am, the finalists will start cooking their paellas in a bid to win the World Paella Day Cup 2024.
The winning paella will be announced at 1pm and from 1.30pm, you will have the chance to dig into a huge paella especially prepared for people attending the event.
This great food festival is open to the general public. Paella lovers are warmly invited to come to the 7th edition of World Paella Day, an event that brings together chefs and foodies around a dish whose preparation is a ritual for local people. Don’t miss it.
