What to See in Aielo de Rugat
Starting our exploration of Aielo de Rugat from the centre, Asunción de Nuestra Señora Parish Church, built in the 18th century, should be your first stop. From here, you can wander down one of the narrow streets and admire the traditional house fronts and typical farmhouses.
See if you can spot some of the ceramic tiles set into the walls, such as that of Mare de Déu del Carme and Sant Josep. These religious artworks are a glimpse into the local culture, as are the old fountains and the public wash house.
If you like spending time outdoors, Aielo de Rugat has plenty to offer. Continue sightseeing and set off into the surrounding countryside to visit the remains of Rugat Castle, a fantastic Medieval fortress perched on top of a hill.
Along this walking route, you’ll pass allotments brimming with produce and picturesque farm houses known as barrancos. The limestone landscape serves as the perfect backdrop for this crumbling castle. See if you can decipher the remains of the castle wall and the battlements that surrounded it. Put on your walking shoes and head off to explore the local countryside.
In Aielo de Rugat’s surrounding countryside, you’ll find idyllic, trickling streams and other water sources that were integral to the local farming culture. Go for a walk in the country and discover everything this corner of La Vall d’Albaida has in store for you. This is the ideal rural getaway to immerse yourself in the inland Valencian countryside.
