What to do in Alaquàs
The most significant landmark in Alaquàs is the impressive Aguilar Palace, a Renaissance fortress that stands proudly at the heart of town. Step inside and admire the Mudejar tiles that date back to the 13th and 14th century. The castle's stately towers and imposing grandeur command the very ground upon which it stands. Dive down one of the surrounding streets as you explore the oldest part of the city.
Continue your wander around the centre and see if you can spot the beautiful ceramic tiles on the walls that often depict religious scenes and form part of Alaquàs’s urban landscape. Next, visit the 16th-century Asunción de Nuestra Señora Parish Church, which stands where an ancient mosque once was, then marvel at the Neoclassical facade of Nuestra Señora del Olivar Parish Church.
As you explore aimlessly, you’ll come across the many small plazas that are dotted around the town. Keep walking until you get to the town’s edge then weave your way through the fertile fields that define this charming destination. But don’t stop there, we still have plenty more to see of Alaquàs!
For an insight into the area’s agricultural history, stroll along the canals Sequieta, Terç, Roller and Dijous, and the other historic sites that were constructed for water irrigation and crop cultivation. Explore on foot or go cycling through the scenic countryside as you bask in the golden sunlight and admire views of the patchwork landscape that hold so much history.
