What to see in Andilla
Before all else, it’s worth knowing that Andilla has a number of inhabited areas beyond the main centre, namely the districts of La Pobleta, Osset and Artaj, as well as Bodegas de Pardanchinos. Exploring them all is sure to be an adventure.
We’re going to start our explorations in the historic centre of Andilla, taking a medieval route which is signposted and has useful information panels. It’s a simple, circular walk that you can set off on, starting with a visit to La Asunción de Nuestra Señora Parish Church, a 16th century place of worship with Renaissance and Baroque elements.
Afterwards, make your way to Plaza de la Muralla, followed by a medieval cross dating to the 15th century. The next stop on the route are the banks of the river Andilla. You’re going to love the scenery here, which is defined by old walnut trees and bridges. You’ll see the remains of medieval roads, reaching an Arabic aqueduct which sits in beautiful surrounds. On your way back, stop off to see Andilla Castle and Walls.
Though only a few sections of this fortress’ walls remain, its hilltop location grants incredible panoramic views that you’re going to love getting photos of. Medieval bridges, old mills, Santa Inés Chapel: you’re going to love everything that you see.
The small districts are home to places of worship like La Inmaculada Concepción in Osset, La Virgen del Carmen Parish Church in Artaj and Santa Paula Parish Church in La Pobleta. They’re must-visits so make sure you don’t miss them.
Last but by no means least, you’ll find countless trails in Andilla as well as via ferratas. This is a great destination for lovers of active tourism. Fancy coming to explore this very special corner of the Region of Valencia?
