What to see in Bellús
To start, we recommend wandering the streets lined with traditional houses that are characteristic of rural destinations. Before too long, you’ll find yourself standing in front of Santa Ana Parish Church, which was built between the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
Your next stop is the stand-out building in the village: an old palace dating back to the 12th century. Bellús Palace, which was once the residence of the Barons of Bélgida, is a clear example of fortified architecture that has travelled through the centuries.
One of the towers is still standing and, if you book a visit, you will see some of the architectural features that have withstood the passing of time. Once you’ve taken a look around, continue your walk around Bellús at El Cristo de la Buena Muerte Chapel, which dates back to the first half of the 20th century, and the traditional wash house. This lovely structure has been completely restored so you can see it just as it once was. You’re sure to want to take a photo or two.
In the area surrounding Bellús, we recommend visiting the Bellús to Xàtiva Canal, which is also known as Bellús Aqueduct. This example of old hydraulic infrastructure, which is thought to date back to the 12th century, traverses Bellús, Genovés and Xàtiva.
You’ll come across plenty of arches, fountains and ruins that look great on camera so pull on your walking boots and set off on an exploration. Rock climbers will also be happy to hear that Bellús is a great destination for the sport, offering great routes. So what do you say? Fancy planning a getaway?
