What to do in Benavites
We’re going to start our explorations of Benavites by taking a look at its most iconic sights, one of which is Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles Parish Church, which dates back to the 17th century. This place of worship sits in a lovely plaza that you can take a stroll around. Benavites is a small place so it won’t take you long to see it all. You’re going to love the old farm houses with their traditional façades.
Known as cases pairals, these houses were mostly built in the 18th century. Normally, carriages and animals were kept at the back of the ground floor while the upper floor was used to store the fruits of the harvest.
Continue wandering until you reach Benavites Tower, a Renaissance watchtower that is the tallest building in the village, reaching 22 m in height. The tower was built between the 14th and 16th centuries and is the symbol of the destination. You will, of course, also want to set aside some time to see the old public wash house, known as the llavaner, which has been restored and is in excellent condition.
To discover more things to see in Benavites, venture outside the winding streets to see the old Santiago de Benicalaf Church, located in a town that no longer exists, Benicalaf. If you love photography, this is one you won’t want to miss.
Lastly, head to Benavites Wetlands, which is part of a larger ecosystem, Marjal y Estanys de Almenara. The scenery here is the perfect place to do some birding and soak up the pretty and relaxing atmosphere. So what are you waiting for?
