What to see in Beniatjar
As you stroll along the streets of Beniatjar, you will find yourself enveloped in quintessentially 18th to 19th century architecture with houses featuring wooden doors and lovely features such as ceramic tiles, striking railings and small Baroque altars.
La Encarnación church, dating from the 17th century and built on an old mosque, will blow you away. From here you can head towards the fountain, which is located close to the Calvario (Stations of the Cross), and then continue your leisurely amble around the streets.
On the outskirts of Beniatjar, there is no shortage of great hiking trails. You can walk to Les Fontetes recreational area and Casa de les Planisses, which is the perfect place to start your hike to summit Benicadell. Casa de Peñalva and Carbonera Castle are other great hiking destinations.
The area surrounding Beniatjar is also full of fascinating sites of historic heritage. Coves del Castellet has rock art dating back to the Bronze Age and on your way up to the peak of Benicadell you’ll find an old icehouse.
There is a circular trail, the PR-CV 213, which will take you up Benicadell so you can breathe in the incredible views and enjoy the lovely landscapes of La Ombría del Benicadell. The trail is 14km long and is of intermediate difficulty level.
