Fiesta de Moros y Cristianos de Bocairent, Moors and Christians Festival in Bocairent, in honour of Sant Blai, is a great excuse to visit this pretty town and its fantastic tourist sites.

On the first day of the festival, the excitement kicks off with ‘Nit de les Caixes’, in which festival-goers in traditional costume carrying lanterns parade along the streets at night, to the rhythm of tabalets - traditional drums. Saturday makes way for the main parades and the grand entrance of the Moors and the Christians, and on Sunday, it’s time for the more sombre processions. On Monday, the town is bombarded with smoke, as locals set off firecrackers and gunpowder fills the air, all in commemoration of the supposed historic negotiations for the conquest of the castle. On the last day, a pilgrimage in honour of Holy Christ makes its way to the chapel, and the traditional "Despojo del Moro" ceremony - which sees the Moors ‘removed’ from power - draws an end to the festival. This is certainly a unique festival you can’t miss being witness to.
