The Region of Valencia is home to countless towns, villages and landscapes whose unique culture, history and gastronomy will hold a place in your heart forever. If you’re planning a getaway to Los Serranos county, Bugarra is a wonderful place to explore. A quaint village where the river sets the pace of life, here the spirit of inland Valencia is very much alive.

What to do in Bugarra

We suggest you start your exploration of Bugarra walking along calle Ancha, calle del Medio and calle de Abajo. The colourful balconies will lead you to San Juan Bautista Parish Church, a village landmark that dates back to the 17th century. The belltower has an interesting history: its base belongs to the minaret that was part of the former Medieval mosque. The minaret used to stand alone and was not attached to any other buildings.

Another sight to see in Bugarra is Casa del Señor Feudal. Built in the 16th century, the house is also known as La Torre as it towers over the rest of the buildings in the village.

Just outside Bugarra a natural wonderland awaits. The village is home to one of just a handful of ´river beaches´ in the province. This beautiful spot where you can take refreshing dips in the summer is nestled among the Chiva and Chulilla mountains. If you like walking or cycling, you can follow the course of the river and find yourself immersed in the midst of nature.

The food and drink in Bugarra will make you fall even more in love with the municipality. Its star dish is olla, a dish featuring cardoons, beans, potatoes, butifarra sausage and either pork, lamb or beef. If you’re interested in how local produce is made, you can also visit Bugarra oil press, where you can enjoy tasting extra virgin olive oils made in the municipality.
