Discover the altars depicting religious images located on the façades of Carrícola.

Carrícola is a municipality that combines the natural world, heritage and art to impressive effect. One of the village’s many attractions are the ceramic altars decorating the façades of the historic centre. Having survived the passing of time, these altars have been listed ethnological spaces of local interest.

At Carrer de Dalt, 20 (20 Dalt street), you can see an altar to La Mare de Déu dels Desamparats, which depicts the Virgin holding the Baby Jesus in her left arm. The Trinitat altar is on Calle San Miguel, 3 (3 San Miguel street) and portrays Jesus showing his wounds to his Father, while the dove of the Holy Spirit flies in the central section above.

Your next stop is the ceramic altar to Sant Antoni Abad, which is located on Plaza de la Constitución. The altar shows the saint as an old man with a beard, standing in his monk’s habit, reading a book that he holds in his hand. Another saint is located in Plaza de la Constitución: Sant Miquel, who has his own altar. And lastly, in the same square, there are a number of non-religious altars that state his name and are also protected.

If you’re wondering what to do in Carrícola, take a stroll through the historic centre and marvel at these wonderful images dating from the 18th and 19th centuries.
