What to do in Casinos
Casinos is a warm and welcoming village that is loved by both its inhabitants and everyone who visits. The municipality is encircled by mountains that you can spend time exploring on foot, breathing in the tranquillity and being at one with nature.
La Clocha Hill is the highest elevation in the municipality, granting far-reaching views all the way to Ibiza on clear, sunny days. Located just 2km from the village, La Torreseca Park is a wonderful place to spend a day out in the great outdoors. The park is home to the remains of a fortified Iberian-Roman settlement dating from the 4th to 1st centuries BC. There are also areas equipped with everything families will need for a day out in the fresh air.
You also can’t miss El Castellar, an archaeological site where work has been done so you can see and identify the different Iberian ruins.
In the centre of Casinos, there are a number of interesting buildings and sights for you to visit. Santa Bárbara Virgen y Mártir Parish Church, for instance, which is dedicated to the patron saint of the village, as well as San Roque Chapel, which is located on Chiner mountain, at the entrance of the village.
There are also a large number of cisterns that speak of the Moorish legacy of the village. Some of the best known are the Nou, Blanc and Olmo cisterns.
And last but by no means least, Casinos has incredible gastronomy. The local turrones (nougat) and peladillas (dragées) capture the flavours of Christmas and are made in family-run factories following age-old artisanal recipes. The village is also known for its tortas imperiales, cascas and marzipan figures. If you like everything sweet, make sure you don’t miss the Artisanal Sweet Treat Fair. Come to Casinos and leave with a delicious taste in your mouth. You’re sure to be back soon.
