If you are in el Puig de Santa Maria, be sure to visit Santa María Royal Monastery, a beautifully preserved Renaissance monument that was declared a Site of Cultural Interest.
The monastery comprises two sections: the church, which is the oldest part of the complex, and the monastery itself. The church was commissioned by King James I of Aragon in memory of the Virgin Mary and to commemorate the battle that led to the Christian conquest of Valencia.
The monastery is home to some beautiful spaces, including the cloisters, the Royal Room, the Jaume I Gothic Room, which displays a faithful recreation of the King’s sword and the Ceramics Rooms, which exhibits a large collection of Roman ceramics. Take your time to wander around and soak up all the history, culture and artistry of this remarkable site.
Offering you the opportunity to discover the history of the province of Valencia through its exceptional architecture, Santa María Royal Monastery is well worth a visit.
