Jalance enjoys a beautiful position in inland province of Valencia. Peaceful and welcoming, the municipality is defined by its many springs, natural pools and dense woodland. And that’s not all. A millennial history is just waiting to be explored in fascinating historic and artistic sites. Come along to walk beautiful hiking routes that will lead you to natural pools and canyons and visit points of interest that will take you back to the dawn of time.

What to see in Jalance

A good place to start your exploration of Jalance is at Castillo de Jalance, a Medieval fortress whose origins date back to the Muslims. Its strategic position reveals that the castle was used for purely defensive purposes. The fortress has been restored and offers a wonderful family day out. You can either walk or drive up to the castle

Another sight that is well worth a visit is San Miguel chapel. Built in the 18th century, this sanctuary sits atop Monte Calvario. In the historic heart of the village you can also visit San Miguel church. Originally a Muslim mosque, this place of worship was later converted into a church. Inside you can see a number of religious statues dating back to the 17th century that have been restored.

In terms of nature, Jalance has a great deal to offer. Cueva de Don Juan, for instance, is an awe-inspiring cave that extends for over 400m underground. The cave has been adapted to host visits. As you walk through the magical rooms, you will come across impressive stalactites and stalagmites, in addition to archaeological remains dating back to the Mesolithic period. When you emerge once again, you will be treated to spectacular views of Cañones del Júcar.

Jalance is also home to a site that dates back a mind-boggling 7,000 years. In Las Monteses cave, you can see some cave art in Jalance. These examples of cave paintings are difficult to access; it is therefore recommended you take a guided tour.

Jalance may be small, but it has plenty to offer. Come along to be immersed in stunning landscapes, discover historic sites and chat to friendly locals.
