Come and explore this 18th century reservoir – a Site of Cultural Interest – and the beautiful scenery around it.

El Bosquet reservoir in Moixent was built in 1770 by Pascual Caro. A hydraulic energy project, it had a clear purpose: to hold back the waters of the river and springs to irrigate the surrounding agricultural land and power the local mills.

The site that is now known as El Bosquet reservoir comprises the basin where the water is collected, the ravines carrying the water, the reservoir itself, the dam holding the water back, the irrigation channels distributing the water and the agricultural land that benefits from it. The site is one of very few of its kind to boast the Site of Cultural Interest label, which it obtained in 2005.

The reservoir makes a great place to visit if you are keen to soak up some heritage in the great outdoors. It is situated in Serra Grossa, the mountain forming the border between La Costera and La Vall d'Albaida counties. The reservoir is swept up in a landscape populated by pine trees, centenary holm oaks and kermes oaks. It is a place that combines the beauty of mother nature with the genius of human construction, which created a system that represented great progress for the local farmers.

To get to El Bosquet reservoir, follow the CV-651 road through the mountains for some 3km in the direction of Ontinyent. You can visit at any time of the year, but we’d recommend coming in the spring as this is when the scenery is at its most beautiful. If, once you’ve taken a look around, you’re in the mood for some more sightseeing, Xàtiva castle is just half an hour’s drive away. Start planning your trip today.
