What to see in Sot de Chera
In the centre of the village, we’d recommend exploring the old jail, the wash house, the castle and tower, and the count’s olive press. You should also pop your head into San Sebastián church, which has an altarpiece attributed to the great Valencia Renaissance painter Juan de Juanes, and San Roque chapel.
The castle and the tower are open to visitors and are fine examples of defence architecture, which has been overseeing the river Sot from a hill since the 11th century.
When it comes to landscapes, Sot de Chera won’t disappoint: here you will find not only impressive plants and wildlife, but also incredible geological formations. A highlight is El Anticlinal, a site where the stratum of the earth fold at an angle. It’s a great photo spot.
On your explorations into the local scenery you also won’t want to miss Buseo reservoir or the natural pools. The Las Toscas waterfalls and viewing point contain a collection of pools filled with crystal-clear waters, coming together to paint a very pretty picture.
As a family, you can walk Ruta Histórica through the centre as well as Ruta Azul, an easy trail through the riverscape. Older walkers will enjoy the Barrancos trail, which leads to Las Toscas, as well as the trails that culminate at Molino de las Fuentes and Peña El Morrón.
You can’t leave the area without sitting down to try olla churra (a stew), rin-ran (cod stew) and other delights. Start preparing your getaway to Sot de Chera and fall in love with a destination with plenty to see and do.
