The City of Arts and Sciences is nothing short of an icon of València city. Architect Santiago Calatrava was tasked with designing and building this impressive complex dedicated to culture and science, which expands over 350,000 metres squared.

One of the buildings forming the City of Arts and Sciences is Hemisfèric. Shaped like an open human eye, the building is surrounded by water. Inside Hemisfèric there is a large screening room used for conferences, shows and screenings of 3D IMAX films.

You may be wondering why Hemisfèric is shaped like a human eye. It is meant to represent the eye of wisdom, symbolising your glance, the way you observe the world as you enjoy the incredible screenings that take place within the space.

Hemisfèric was the first building to be completed in the City of Arts of Sciences and was opened to the public in 1998.

The City of Arts and Sciences is a space for all the family where you can have lots of fun and learn interesting things. You can also visit the Museum of Sciences, Oceanogràfic and Umbracle while you’re here.
